TIDE MILL INSTITUTE has announced the program for its October 25 and 26 (Friday and Saturday) annual tide mill conference in Kittery, Maine. With primary focus on mill sites between the Piscataqua and Merrimack rivers, and it offers something for everyone. Register now to reserve your space.
History lovers will be amazed by the number of tide mill sites on both sides of the lower Piscataqua River and on the creek and tide marsh network in Kittery and the adjacent New Hampshire seacoast. The Friday October 25 program will include a low-tide visit to several of the sites.
The Saturday October 26 sessions will take a more world wide view, discussing the numbers and locations of mills around the globe and describing tide power use in the U.K. during the Anglo Saxon and late Middle Ages. The future of tidal power technology will be the focus of presentations about the potential of tidal currents in the Gulf of Maine and how the new “living bridge” spanning the tidal Piscataqua gathers data to help in the development of tidal energy projects.
The conference will be held at the Kittery Community Center. Sessions for both days start at 8:30 a.m. Registration fee is $50 per person ($40 for Tide Mill Institute members) and includes Saturday lunch.
