Tide Mill Institute folks are often asked if any tide mill buildings are left. Below are images of ten that still exist in the northeastern U.S.A. None are operating. Please contact us if you’re aware of any others.
Poplar Grove – Matthews County, VA – once owned by John Lennon. A new wheel has been installed and much of the working machinery is still in place.
Van Wyck-Lefferts mill – Huntington, NY – the original gearing still exists, but the wheel is gone.
Saddle Rock – Great Neck, LI, New York – owned by Nassau County. Damaged recently in northeaster.
Old Hingham Mill – Hingham, MA – has been a pub and grille for years.
Souther Tide Mill – Quincy, MA – an energetic group has done a lot of work restoring the building. One of the original two horizontal wheels is still there in the mud under the building.
Curzon’s Mill – Newburyport, MA – now a private residence.
Slade’s spice mill – Revere, MA – now an apartment complex. Damaged by flooding in last winter’s storm. Some of the original equipment remains.
